FINAL PROJECT REPORT

FINAL PROJECT REPORT

1. What's your opinion about working in the project?
It was very important to us as future industrial engineers working on this project because we raised awareness about environmental issues and think well: what can we do to create awareness of our environment and prevent further deterioration of the situation?

2. Could you work well as a team? were you a good team member?
I could work well in teams, I like to integrate, collaborate with colleagues and give everything I can to the team.

3. What was your project about?
Our project was created to raise awareness in the industries that are major polluters in the world and trying to do to cut costs in production.

4. Was it easy for you to find information about it?
No, it was not so easy to find all the necessary information.

5. What were some of the resources you and your team used to work on this project?
Most of the location information over the Internet and through interviews with acquaintances who work in the companies mentioned in our project.

6. What was your role in the team?
My role in the team was the secretary / spokeperson work and everything I could.

7. Working with the wiki...how was it?
Working with the wiki was not so simple at first but was very rewarding when we managed to upload our files.

8. What about the resources posted in the blog? were they useful?
The resources provided on the blog, we were a great help to develop the assigned tasks.

9. What are some recommendations you will give to improve working in a project?
Require that each court in each group delivered a small advance of the work done for the project, because in this way for greater understanding of each step involved in the project and also in terms of technological tools to use.
GREEN COST... OUR FINAL PROJECT!!!

Less waste, less cost ...

We can do it!The impact that industries have on our environment, we must note the use that they confer to the natural’s resources. Every day more and more resources are taken from our environment and it’s deteriorating our planet. Today we want to make a call of conscience, with the intention of giving rise to the importance of recycling. This project wants to make a footprint in the industry, we need an alert, because it is vital to take care of our planet, it’s the only one we have. Reduce costs is to reuse resources. Cost is a Green Planet Green.

The Problem

The problem is the depletion of resources; this creates a huge impact on the ecosystem. Companies show daily waste and the Recycling is minimal. Production costs are high, reuse of materials is a benefit for the company and the planet, as well during the manufacturing waste is highly polluting and difficult to remove.

Some well known companies such as Polar, which recycle within it, but most do not contribute anything to the environment. Companies like CEMEX, also no recycling has an impact of pollution as well grow disease for it. Every company should recycle and help preserve the environment.

Methodology

The objective of our project is to make a better world, which not only benefits one, benefits all, because we are part of the same planet and it is time to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. We took two companies Polar and Cemex, where we saw the effects that doing to the environment. Each company can do something for our planet. We take Green Cost, because it is an important point in our career, and future industrial engineers and we know the effect of costs in production. We hope to create in us and in our colleagues conscience of this true green.

Engineering Solution

If every company put their bit by recycling, will certainly help the environment, as well as their production costs go down, every company must perform an action of environmental care. Recycling of resources represents a reuse of the beautiful environment we have and we must not stop. The environment gives us; we will also give to him.
The destruction of the environment an issue of general effects, we most take generals actions.

Industrial Engineering

A branch of engineering dealing with the design, development, and implementation of integrated systems of humans, machines, and information resources to provide products and services. Industrial engineering encompasses specialized knowledge and skills in the physical, social, engineering, and management sciences, such as human and cognitive sciences, computer systems and information technologies, manufacturing processes, operations research, production, and automation. The industrial engineer integrates people into the design and development of systems, thus requiring an understanding of the physical, physiological, psychological, and other characteristics that govern and affect the performance of individuals and groups in working environments.
Industrial engineering is a broad field compared to other engineering disciplines. The major activities of industrial engineering stem from manufacturing industries and include work methods analysis and improvement; work measurement and the establishment of standards; machine tool analysis and design; job and workplace design; plant layout and facility design; materials handling; cost reduction; production planning and scheduling; inventory control, maintenance, and replacement; statistical quality control; scheduling; assembly-line balancing, systems, and procedures; and overall productivity improvement. Computers and information systems have necessitated additional activities and functions, including numerically controlled machine installation and programming; manufacturing systems design; computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing, design of experiments, quality engineering, and statistical process control; computer simulation, operations research, and management science methods; computer applications, software development, and information technology; human-factors engineering and ergonomics; systems design and integration; and robotics and automation.

The philosophy and motivation of the industrial engineering profession is to find the most efficient and effective methods, procedures, and processes for an operating system, and to seek continuous improvement. Thus, industrial engineering helps organizations grow and expand efficiently during periods of prosperity, and streamline costs and consolidate and reallocate resources during austere times. Industrial engineers, particularly those involved in manufacturing and related industries, work closely with management. Therefore, some understanding of organizational behavior, finance, management, and related business principles and practices is needed. See also Computer-aided design and manufacturing; Human-factors engineering; Operations research; Production planning.

MY AVATAR IN SECOND LIFE!!!

Her name is NIKITA CAFFARELLI and she is my avatar in Second Life, you can find me in there http://www.secondlife.com//

"Key words under the engineering definition"

Most simply, the art of directing the great sources of power in nature for the use and the convenience of people. In its modern form engineering involves people, money, materials, machines, and energy. It is differentiated from science because it is primarily concerned with how to direct to useful and economical ends the natural phenomena which scientists discover and formulate into acceptable theories. Engineering therefore requires above all the creative imagination to innovate useful applications of natural phenomena. It seeks newer, cheaper, better means of using natural sources of energy and materials.

"The typical modern engineer goes through several phases of career activity. Formal education must be broad and deep in the sciences and humanities. Then comes an increasing degree of specialization in the intricacies of a particular discipline, also involving continued postscholastic education. Normal promotion thus brings interdisciplinary activity as the engineer supervises a variety of specialists. Finally, the engineer enters into the management function, weaving people, money, materials, machines, and energy sources into completed processes for the use of society".

Broad: Extended, in the sense of diffused; open; clear; full. Wide in extend from side to side. Large in expanse; spacious. Of great breadth. Of great extend; large. Widely diffused; open.

Intricacies: The condition or quality of being intricate; complexity. Something intricate. Perplexity; involution; complication. Intricate character or state. An intricate part, action, etc.

Postscholastic: Postgraduate. Often Scholastic of, relating to, or characteristic of scholasticism. Of or relating to schools, academic.

Weaving: a. To make (cloth) by interlacing the threads of the weft and the warp on a loom.
b. To interlace (threads, for example) into cloth.
The act of one who, or that wich, weaves; the act or art of forming cloth in a loom by the union or intertexture of threads.

ABOUT ME...

Hi, my name is Dianella Gómez but my friends call me "Diane". I'm from Maracaibo. I live in Maracaibo, in "La Floresta". I'm 31 years old, I have studies on Industrial Safety and Integral Protection, and I'm studying Industrial Engineering at URBE.

I love music, dancing, travelling, I really love my beautiful country and my city, spend time with my family, and learn new languages...in fact, I'm learning Italian right now and I also want to learn to speak french...
I hate politics, vallenato, cooking, ironing and closed-minded people.

My dream is...to graduate and travel around the world specially go to Europe, visit the Pompeii Ruins.

My opinion about English is that, it is really important nowadays because it is a universal language and it's very useful for my career. The most difficult part for me is speaking, I need to practice...and I hope to learn so much in this class.
